Brittany: Friends

Friends
can betray you and also be
a hidden word in a crossword puzzle.
It’s so easy to understand
now that I’m old enough
to understand what can happen
to friendship.

Like the iceberg that Titanic hit,
like the music a musician plays,
like crayons without a coloring book,
you draw on the wall.

It’s so easy to fight,
yet so hard to make peace,
just put our differences aside,
let them not hide… anymore,

because it’s too much agony;
it’s too much pain.

And yet we sit and wait
for a new friend to come along
instead of pushing your way
to a lovely life.

Friends
may come and
friends
may go.

One thing you must know
is that they can also leave
or trace you two-steps back
in the past.
