2002 Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest

Theme
Each year we take this special month to honor our heritage and strengthen our pride in being Hispanic Americans. The essay contest promotion is entitled “Proud of my Hispanic Heritage.”
Who
The contest is open to all students between the ages of 12 and 18.
What
From September 15th to November 1st, students will be entered into the contest by sending their essays (minimum 500 words) to WWSI-TV Telemundo 62. Each entry must be a student’s original work. Children should develop an essay that will allow them to research the needs of their community. Guidelines for the writing assignment are as follows:

Delivery of work
All work must be delivered to Marisol Lezcano, WWSI-TV Telemundo 62, 1341 N. Delaware Ave., Suite 408, Philadelphia, PA 19125. Entries should be delivered no later than Wednesday, October 22nd. If there are any questions, please call Marisol Lezcano at 215-634-8862 ext. 206.
Judging
An independent panel at Temple University will select the winners: one from the middle schools and one from the high schools.
Awards
One winner will be chosen from the middle schools and will receive a $100 US Savings Bond. Another winner will be chosen from the high schools and will also receive a $100 US Savings Bond. Winners will be announced at Temple University during a ceremony to present the awards along with a Temple prize pack. Winners will also read their essays on air during the taping of “De Todo Un Poco”, a local news segment hosted by Maria del Pilar.
Requirements
Each entry must include the student’s name, address, telephone number, school, grade, age, social security number (for issuing of savings bonds), and names of parents.
