Feature: The New York Tragedy
On September 11, 2001, we came to school as a regular, normal day, not thinking that anything wrong would happen. All of a sudden Ms. Lind, our science teacher, came into the classroom and asked Mr. Gilbert, our math teacher, if he heard the tragedy. Then our teachers stopped teaching and turned on the television set. There they showed what had happened, and at that minute we were all shocked and scared because they were saying that they were around our area. So all the schools in Philadelphia had to come out early.
Everyone was going crazy. They were all scared, and all the students got picked up by their parents. Everyone had to stay inside with their family. The next day we came to school, and they were talking about the tragedy. More than a thousand people’s lives were taken. That’s when our class, Room 204, in Roberto Clemente School decided to raise money for the firemen and the schools in New York. So we made flag pins, and in our spare time we sold the pins to family members and friends.
