Welcome Back to School!
Welcome back to Clemente School and to our technology newsletter for classroom teachers. To our new teachers, welcome to your new home and family at Roberto Clemente Middle School. We hope you find the information in this newsletter helpful in getting to know how the technology available to you can assist you in what you’re doing in the classroom.
First, there have been some changes in the Technology Department this year. Our Database Manager, Sara Ortiz, has retired from the School District and is basking in the sun on some deserted island in the Caribbean. Our School Technology Coordinator Ron Walker will be assuming Sara’s responsibilities concerning new teacher and student names being added to our Mac Manager server for computer access.
In addition, the School District has altered its ordering and repair service for technology, causing some stricter guidelines about in-house computer repairs. Our “Help Desk” now requires that all requests for computer assistance be submitted to the Tech Assistant on the Computer Help/Request Form provided to teachers in their mailboxes, in front of the mail room, and on each floor (check with your Assistant Principal). All requests are documented in a computer database used to track common problems and to find solutions that will create a better technological environment for staff and students in our school.
Just a reminder: DO NOT move computer equipment from room to room. The School District audits our inventory every year, and the Tech Department has to account for every piece of equipment we place in rooms. Also, please be reminded that network computers must remain within seven (7) feet of the Ethernet drops in your classroom. Please submit a request to move a network computer away from its location for special circumstances ONLY.
We have received several requests from teachers wishing to bring in computers of their own to use in the classroom. Please submit a request to bring in such equipment before actually placing it in the classroom. The Technology Department is not responsible for the care or maintenance of these computers, printers or peripherals.
That said, enjoy the newsletter, and have a great school year!
